One Year After College Graduation, This is What I've Learned

Exactly one year ago I was awarded my degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. I've learned a lot since the evening I walked across the stage inside the UNT coliseum and into the "real world". Unlike before when I knew I would be studying and taking classes, this was the first time I truly didn't know where I would be in a year. Part of me was exhilarated and another was scared sh*tless.

By the grace of God and coffee-fueled hours in the library,I had countless job offers. I accepted the role I'm currently in and spent one month transitioning into full on adulting. A lot has changed since then, so I thought I'd share some of the things I've learned along the way. No matter what stage of life you're in, I challenge you to take a look back at the past year and see how far you'e come.

Here's some of the things I've learned:

1) Do the things you have always wanted to do.

Tomorrow isn't promised so you might as well go after what you want. The real world is huge and full of possibilities.

2) Your 9 to 5 is not your end-all be-all

3) Friendships require work

Scheduling phone calls or dinner becomes harder the older I get. "How about Thursday night at 7 two weeks from now?" sounds all too familiar. As everyone has different schedules, it takes a lot more effort to see each other. Good news is that we generally have loads to talk about once my friends and I get together.

4) Take time for yourself

5. Being an adult is expensive

That almond milk you love? That will be $6, please. Don't even get me started on the prices of tires...

6) Love the life you're living

The most important lessons to be learned seldom come out of a text book. Just because I'm through with my time inside a classroom doesn't mean that my education halts. Life has a way of throwing new challenges all the time. Be grateful and accept them with courage :)
