Glamorous Resume Makeover + GIVEAWAY

Quick word on the outfit: I'm loving business casual looks that utilize black and white. I paired simple black jeans, a classic black blazer, and my favorite white lace trimmed tank to create a perfect "uniform" for work. Click the pictures above to shop!

Remember that scene from The Princess Diaries where Mia Thermopolis gets transformed into a princess with a manicure, new wardrobe, and etiquette lessons? Think of this post as the glam squad for your resume. Today I’m sharing tips on how to fix up your resume and announcing an incredible giveaway opportunity for one of you to win a professional resume makeover!

Let's start with the giveaway! I am so excited to share that I've partnered with my long-time friend and resume queen, Brenna Fowler, who will be giving one lucky winner a complete resume makeover. Brenna attends Auburn University, where she launched her successful business of re-doing resumes. She recognized that in order to catch an employer's attention during the recruiting process, she needed her resume to stand out. Her work caught the eyes of her friends too. She began making custom resumes and now has clients in several states. Her work helps students take their resumes from "stock looking" to professional and perfect, leading to job offers and internships. She believes that resumes should complement and showcase the best version of yourself.

Here are some examples of her work:

Just by looking at these examples you can see how much detail and time she puts into her resumes. Why? Because resumes are often what can make or break you in the job hunt, and having a "you had us at hello" resume gives you huge leverage. Resumes are more than just some facts about you on a page. Your resume should highlight your personal brand. Brenna's work shows how no matter what industry you are in, your resume should be eye-catching. Resume Makeover Tips:

Font and Size Matters

Always remember that your resume should be easy to read. Stick to a select number of fonts that look nice together. Utilize space wisely and try to keep it all on one page if you're just starting out.

Add Key Words

If you read my post about Getting Your LinkedIn Ready For Recruiters in 30 Minutes you'll know all about how adding key words from the job descriptions you are looking at will optimize your resume for the job application's automated scans that look for matches. Nail the correct key words and you're one step closer to your dream job.

Show Off What You've Got

Adding hard (technical) and soft skills shows the character traits and abilities that make you the right fit for the job. Also, some of the skills you add to your list can be sprinkled throughout your experience section too!

Stay Consistent With Your Personal Brand

Your resume is sometimes the first impression a company will have about you. Make sure your resume is fitting for your industry by targeting your audience (who will be reading your resume and what they are looking for) and develop a value proposition to show what unique value you offer to the company through experiences and personal attributes.

I hope you found these tips helpful for giving your resume a makeover! To find out more about Brenna and her work, check out her Instagram.

Thank you Brenna for partnering with me on this post!
