How to Give Stock Shares as a Gift

Sure, I love fuzzy socks, candles, and gifts cards as much as the next girl, but gifting someone shares of stock is truly the gift that keeps on giving. If you're running out of gift ideas for that person who has everything, consider gifting them some stock in a company they love. Giving a stock is unique, educational, and cheaper than you may think.

Today, I'm going to tell you about two companies that specialize in gifting as little as one or a fraction of a share. First, GiveAShare focuses on giving a single share of stock as a packaged gift - they send your recipient a framed authentic stock certificate and everything. Keep in mind that if your recipient wants to sell the stock, they would need to go through a broker or transfer agent, as GiveAShare is not a brokerage firm.

Stockpile lets you gift fractions of a share as a gift. If you haven't been checking the market lately, I'll be the first to tell you that if you want to give someone a share of Amazon, be ready to shell out around $1,600.00. Stockpile is a brokerage firm, meaning that the stock you gift someone will be in a brokerage account where they can sell or buy more shares.

Here are some ideas for your stock gift list:

Amazon (AMZN)

Apple (APPL)

Callaway (ELY)

Coca-Cola (KO)

Facebook (FB)

Ford (F)

GoPro (GPRO)

Lululemon (LULU) (Clayton's fave)

Netflix (NFLX)

Snapchat (SNAP)

Starbucks (SBUX)

Giving shares of stock is memorable, personable, and fun. But if all else fails, we know that everyone loves Bath and Body Works and they gift wrap for free.
