Weekend in Amarillo

After over ten years living here, Texas feels like home in every way. This weekend I explored a part of Texas I had never been to before. After driving over five hours and listening to almost every Taylor Swift song ever made, I made it to Amarillo, Texas.

Ella Bleu Romper | Tory Burch Sandals

Amarillo, sometimes referred to as the Yellow Rose of Texas (due to the fact that the city takes its name from the Spanish word for yellow), is known for being windy and hot. Don't even bother wearing a skirt or a dress here. Since I knew better, I stuck with rompers and shorts. This red scalloped romper from Ella Bleu Boutique is perfect for any summer day. I paired it with my favorite Tory Burch sandals at the moment. They're black and have crystal details on the logo.

I think that rompers are the perfect summer staple because they can be more casual than a dress. They can be worn day or night and dressed up or down. Check out to see the cute rompers they have online and in store!

Isn't he cute? Clayton is an Amarillo native, and took me all over the city to see the tourist sites he hadn't been to since high school. #BestBoyfriendEver. This line of spray painted cars is known as Cadillac Ranch. It was built by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm whose work focused on avant-garde architecture.

I'm ashamed to admit this, but I think I was the only person in Texas who had never heard of The Big Texan, the famous steakhouse known for it's 72 ounce steak. We didn't order one, but our food was great. Being from Dallas, I often miss out on the country side of Texas. If I learned anything on this trip, I learned that I need to appreciate Texas art and culture more, and therefore, spend less time in Nordstrom (mentioning this because Amarillo doesn't have one - RIP).

Thank you Clayton for the best weekend in your city. Stay windy, Amarillo.
